Annual Meetings and Reports

Series consists of records relating to the design and publication of the Gallery’s Annual Reports and Bulletins, as well as invitations, ballots, and related material for the Gallery’s Annual Meetings and Board of Trustees elections. Includes project schedules, budget documents, memos and correspondence, and related textual records.

Art Rental

Series consists of records relating to design projects for the Art Rental Service department, operated by the Women’s Committee and later the Volunteer Committee. Includes records relating to the creation of invitations and promotional material for Art Rental events, tags for artworks, forms, and departmental stationary.

Audio-Visual Centre

Series consists of records relating to publication and design projects for the Audio-Visual Centre, also previously known as the “Slide Library” and “Audio-Visual Library.” The AV Centre was responsible for loaning slides and other audio-visual material to schools and other institutions for use in teaching and lectures. The Publications and Design department supported the production of catalogues for the AV Centre, which listed the slides and other material available for loan. Includes printing quotations, memos and correspondence, copy material, and related textual records regarding the production of the catalogue.

Design Department (General Administration)

Series consists of records relating to administrative tasks and projects within the Design department, including project schedules, expense lists, and lists of abandoned projects. Also includes records relating to certificates and awards granted to the department for Design projects.

Director’s Office

Series consists of records relating to design projects for the Director’s Office. Projects that the Publications and Design department supported for the Director’s Office include the design of stationary, signage, and invitations for events, such as the Director William Withrow’s 25th Anniversary Party.

Education & Programming

Series consists of records relating to Publications and Design's projects for the Education & Programming department and its varied iterations. Includes records relating to Education programming, such as conferences, symposiums and other lectures and talks, as well as the Gallery School, school visits, Education kits, and other programmes and projects, such as the Masterpieces in the Collection project. Also includes records relating to events and programming for fundraising events, such as the Annual Giving Fund and records relating to the design of the Education department’s signage and forms.

Includes drafts, mockups and samples of final design products, memos and correspondence, quotations, and related textual documents regarding the production of design products for the Education & Programming department. Also includes some visual material, including photographs from the Gallery School, photographs that were included in Education kits for teachers and students, and other events.

Exhibitions and Curatorial

Series consists of records relating to Publications and Design’s projects for the Exhibitions and Curatorial departments. Common projects included the production of promotional material for specific exhibitions, such as flyers, invitations, and posters, as well as departmental stationary, forms, and labels. Includes textual records such as memos and correspondence, drafts and samples, as well as documents relating to the production of some catalogues and other publications.

Also includes objects such as gift wrap, stickers, a T-shirt, and other objects relating to specific exhibitions, such as the Treasures of Tutankhamun (1979) and Judy Chicago: The Dinner Party (1982), among others.

Extension Services

Series consists of records relating to Publication and Design projects for Extension Services. Includes records relating to the creation of the Circulating Exhibitions Catalogue, newsletters, promotional material for Extension Services programs and exhibitions, as well as departmental forms.

Film

Series consists of records relating to Design projects for AGO Film programs and projects. Includes promotional material such as posters, brochures, and flyers for screenings and related events.

Gallery Shop

File consists of records relating to Publication and Design projects for the Gallery Shop (previously also known as the Book Shop). Includes records relating to product catalogues, designs for potential products, samples of gift shop bags, and promotional material for the shop.
