Heat Transfers

File consists of teaching notes, materials and supplies relating to image transfer works, especially by heat transfer. Includes paper ephemera such as magazine clippings, wallpaper samples, fabric pieces, vellum prints, printouts, and other graphic material used by Astman in teaching. Also includes visual aids regarding heat transfers, which contain multiple small examples of image transfers alongside the transparencies used to create the transfer and notes describing the steps taken. Some materials, including vellum prints, have been folded, cut or torn into various shapes for use in creating image transfers or other processes.

File contains 71 magazine covers (including duplicates) by Helen Dryden (1887-1981) that include 61 covers not mounted in mats from Dress & Vanity fair, Nov. 1913, Vanity fair, May 1919 and Vogue, 1911-1922 (60 covers), sorted chronologically; arrangement, by box-folder: 4-10) 1911-1913; 4-11) 1914-1916; 4-12) 1917-1922.

The fonds includes correspondence, newspaper and magazine clippings, photographs, drawings, poems, notes and memorabilia relating to Helen Sanderson’s student days at the Ontario College of Art and subsequent teaching career. Many of these were pasted into a scrapbook, entitled ‘Art School Days’, forming a distinctive memoir of student life in the 1920’s and 1930’s. The fonds is arranged in a single series.
