More Sandblasting Samples: Glass/Linoleum/Stone

File consists of an etching of a spiral on a round stone and a square piece of thick glass, as well as a sample of black vinyl from a vinyl flooring and tile company with "ART," etched into one side and the company name and other information in white lettering on the other side. Astman created the stone etching using a rock found in her garden.

Top Etched Glass Samples Plus Etched Glass Of An Image Of My Sister Carol

File consists of two samples of sandblasting etchings on glass, featuring an image of a spiral with "S O" on the back in pen and an image of Astman's sister, sourced from Xerox material. Also includes a sticker sheet of the letters of the alphabet and a note describing the process creating the etching. The glass etching that is partically covered in tape shows a middle step in the process Astman sometimes used to create sand-blasting etchings, which used tape as one of the materials to create resistance to the sandblasting, preventing the glass underneath from becoming frosted. The etching featuring an image of Astman's sister was created used "liquid etch" or "etch in a bottle," which can be used to create detailed etchings.

Glass - Handmade Nagative - Using High Contrast Film[…]

File consists of an experimental collage made of pieces of negative transparencies that have been cut into various shapes and pressed between two pieces of glass, used as a sample in Astman's teaching. Astman sourced the materials for this sample by taking discarded pieces of large-format negatives from students' work, shaping them and placing them together between glass to create a collage. This piece was shown to students as an example of a work that can be created using materials that might otherwise have been discarded.

[Glass Etching]

File consists of an etching of an abstract rose-like shape on a piece of thick glass, used in Astman's teaching. The work was created by Astman using masking tape and matte medium to cover parts of the glass before it was sandblasted, creating the etching. This work was one of numerous samples used by Astman to teach students about negatives and the variety of materials that can be used to create artworks.

First Textile Transfer Print […]

File consists of a piece of chiffon-type fabric featuring a colour image of people inside a building, used in Astman's teaching. Also includes a note on paper regarding the fabric work, detailing that it is the first textile transfer print done by Rob Boakes at BGM of the 1999 Emergence Series. The piece was created in response to a request from Astman, who was interested in image transfers on fabric.
