Four distinct sets of correspondence files have been grouped in this sub-series, following the original file labels: chronological art correspondence (Box 1), alphabetical art correspondence (Box 2), chronological [general] correspondence (Box 3), and alphabetical “Misc.”correspondence (Box 4).

Gustave Doré illustrations

Series comprises approximately 240 printed sheets of black-and-white and greyscale wood engravings (prints) from drawings by French printmaker, painter and sculptor Gustave Doré (1832–1883). Perhaps the oldest sheets of illustrations in this series are in a partial, disbound copy of Doré’s Two hundred sketches humorous and grotesque, while other leaves with images are from The beautiful story by James William Buel (1849–1920), and from editions of Inferno by Dante Alighieri (1235–1321) and Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra (1547–1616).

Handmade artist books

Series is comprised of unpublished artist books by Robert Fones created between 1964 and 1972. The bulk of the books are dated 1964 and 1965 while Fones was attending H.B. Beal Secondary School in London, Ontario. Two books, Ticket to Ride and Letters I’ve Known and Loved: the Life and Legend of the Alphabet are incomplete and unbound. Only the book jacket for Norwegian Wood was completed. All books contain original artwork and text.
