[Photocopy Lift Transfers]

File consists of an instructional document relating to photocopy lifts, a type of image transfer created using a matte or gloss liquid medium. Also includes colour and b&w prints on vellum and one emulsion transfer on a canvas panel that Astman used in teaching. Two of the vellum prints are taped to a poster board for display in the classroom.

Transparent Image Tape Transfer Tutorial

File consists of an instructional teaching document and samples of graphic material and paper ephemera such as newspaper pages, clippings, and other materials that can be used to create transparent image tape transfers. Also includes two samples of image transfers on tape used by Astman in teaching.

[Fabric Printing]

File consists of instructional documents, invoices for printer materials, and related documents and graphic material regarding fabric printing. Includes colour fabric prints and sample fabric swatches from Jacquard Inkjet Fabric Systems. Also includes two pieces of grey synthetic fabric, patterned with dots resembling snakeskin print, relating to Jennifer Rose Scrianno’s project as an artist-in-residence at OCAD.

Matte Medium Lift

File consists of an instructional document for Astman's Photo-Based Workshop explaining the projects and other details of the workshop. Also includes an image transfer on transparent tape on the back of a plastic sleeve and a black and white photographic print of an image of a face.

[Instructional Documents - Historical Processes]

File consists of instructional documents, notes, and correspondence relating to Astman's Historical Processes course, as well as graphic material such as prints and transparencies used in teaching that show the results of specific printing settings and techniques.

Breaking the Rules: A Photo Media Cookbook

File consists of a copy of Breaking the Rules: A Photo Media Cookbook by Bea Nettles (Third Edition, 1992), which explores and provides instructions for a variety of creative photographic processes. "B. ASTMAN COPY" is written across the front in black ink.

Expirimental Imagery + Process

File consists of a notebook of students' photographic works and portraits, primarily in the form of photographic strips attached to paper, created for one of Astman's courses at OCAD U (previously the OCA) during the 1970s. Some pages are bound in the notebook and others are loose and dispersed throughout its pages. Also includes correspondence with Alan Gabay (former student), recalling the course.

[Course Assignments]

File consists of correspondence and related documents regarding Astman's course assignments at OCAD U and confirmation of status and compensation as a faculty member. Also includes forms and correspondence regarding a request for a reduction in workload for the 2017-2018 academic year.

[Correspondence and Thank You Notes]

File consists of correspondence, primarily thank you notes, regarding Astman's contributions to a variety of projects and initiatives, especially the Photography Faculty and Friends Award, which is awarded to students pursuing degrees at OCAD U. Also includes a certificate from OCAD in recognition of 35 years of service (2010).
