Fonds consists of the personal and professional records of Greg Curnoe. It includes such textual documentation as writing files; correspondence; project files including grant applications, records of the National Gallery retrospective exhibition, and Curnoe’s published writings; notebooks and journals kept by the artist, including his cycling journals; and a number of bookworks. Visual material includes numerous sketchbooks and works on paper as well as extensive photographic documentation of Curnoe’s studio, social and professional activities, exhibitions, family life, and art work. Also included are printing blocks and rubber stamps used in Curnoe’s art making. The fonds contains audio and audiovisual material which records important events and ideas in Curnoe’s life. The fonds includes two pop culture collections relating closely to Curnoe’s art practice: his collection of buttons and his collection of regional pop bottles. Series consists of a file card inventory of Greg Curnoe’s art works in four sequences, each in a plastic box: Studio (yellow box); Consignment (white box); [unlabelled] (grey box); and [unlabelled, featuring rubber-stamped stars in upper right corners of cards] (blue box). Art works date from 1953 to 1978 (predominant 1960-1977). Series also contains a list of Curnoe’s paintings with owners and prices paid.

Series consists of files relating to retrospective exhibition at the National Gallery of Canada (1981), including correspondence, contracts, loan forms, drafts of catalogue, small black & white photos of works, copies of invitation, and other material.

Collection consists of documentation of Greg Curnoe’s life and career as an artist, collected by Nellie Curnoe throughout her son’s life and after his death. The fonds includes Greg Curnoe’s childhood drawings, notes, annotated books and school records; documentation of his artistic activities, including press clippings and exhibition invitations; postcards from Greg Curnoe and his family to his parents; and sympathy cards to Nellie and Gordon Curnoe following Greg Curnoe’s death. Series consists of notebooks and diaries in which Greg Curnoe recorded visual and verbal observations and poetry and prose writings from his art college years to his later professional life.

Series consists of Greg Curnoe’s files on art dealers and galleries; exhibitions; teaching and other employment; conferences and symposia; art and design projects (both proposed and realized); and organizations in which he was involved. Files contain material such as correspondence, drafts of articles, essays, ephemera, notes and issues of periodicals.

Series consists of photographs of artworks; installation views of exhibitions; photographic source material for art work; snapshots of Greg Curnoe, his family and friends; and photographs of Greg Curnoe’s studio.

Series consists of Greg Curnoe’s collection of regional pop bottles, representing brands Wishing Well, Sport, Snow White, Brunswick, Pepsi-Cola, Pure Spring, Moran, Calgary, Browns, Wilson’s, Twisty Cola, Taylor’s, Pachal’s, and Christin. Most bottles are full and sealed but several are empty. Bottles are contained in original cardboard carry trays and displayed on a wire rack. These bottles represent a selection by the artist from his larger collection of approximately 200 pop bottles that was kept in his studio; see box 52 and folder 2-10 for Curnoe’s inventories of this larger group.
