Series comprises biographical information, materials on CBC broadcasts by and about F.H. Varley, lists of publications about Varley and his work, notes and drafts of letters and other writings, insurance policies and a passport. Some materials apparently pertain to the family of Kathleen McKay.


File contains lists of publications about Varley, catalogues of exhibitions, a list of published reproductions of paintings and drawings, a form requiring biographical information completed for Varley and a draft for an entry in Canadian Who's Who, 1958

Diaries and address books

Series comprises F.H. Varley’s calendar-agenda books with notations for appointments, addresses and other memoranda. Pages in some items include graphite sketches. Item titles are chiefly from the title pages or covers of the items.


File contains an inventory and valuation of artworks at Roberts Gallery, Toronto, in various media prepared in 1969 for Kathleen McKay after Varley's death, including titles, dimensions, and condition, for works individually and as a group.


File contains market insurance valuations by Roberts Gallery, Toronto, dated July 1969, Mar. 1981 and Dec. 1982 of Kathleen McKay's collection of works by Varley and others, with a letter (June 1987) from the Art Gallery of Ontario regarding the value of a donation of works and a request by Mrs McKay for valuation by Joyner Fine Art (Aug. 1987).

Financial records

Series comprises some of F.H. Varley’s bankbooks, income tax returns and expense receipts; with correspondence related to his financial affairs. Included are a watercolour and small photograph.


File contains bankbooks and chequebooks for accounts at the Bank of Montreal in Toronto and the Bank of Nova Scotia in Unionville, Ont., with other material, dating from between 1954 to the 1960s.
