Administration of the collection files

Series consists of correspondence, invoices from shippers and photographers, customs and shipping forms, insurance policies with accompanying lists of art works, and index cards containing descriptions of works in the collection. Also included is a card catalogue of reference books. Index cards were originally housed in metal boxes. Files have been grouped by subject.

Photographs

Series contains photographs and negatives relating to the personal and private life of L.A.C. Panton. Material includes photographs of family and friends, photographs of his paintings, and photographs on which he based his paintings. The photographs have been arranged by subject matter and size. Very few of the photographs have been labeled or dated.

Series comprises files kept by Gallery Moos on other galleries (public and private), art dealers, auction houses and associated art organizations, typically containing correspondence, lists of works of art, invoices and receipts. Files are arranged alphabetically. .

Series comprises files on Walter Moos’ art-acquisition journeys to Europe in the 1960s. Records include correspondence, itineraries, dealer literature, and invoices. .

Series comprises 21 rubber stamps designed by Robert Fones and used during his participation in the correspondence art movement of the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Series comprises records of the management of the Pollock Gallery during various periods of its activity
between 1967 and 1982, including records of transactions with clients and other art galleries; financial
records; files on works of art consigned to the gallery for exhibition and sale by artists, or for resale by
collectors; records of consignment of works to rental services of art museums; accounting for art gallery
purchases from art dealers and artists; and related material.

Series comprises correspondence regarding the business affairs of the Pollock Gallery and other art-related matters between 1962 and 1982, including business (and some personal) correspondence to Jack Pollock; a file of letters notifying clients, artists and others of the impending closure of the gallery in 1981; and other correspondence.

Artist files

Series comprises files of materials on artists whose works were exhibited by the Pollock Gallery in the 1960s and 1970s, together with artists who were applying to the Pollock Gallery for representation, and others. The files include photographs of paintings, prints and sculpture; artist biographies; chronologies of exhibitions; exhibition announcements; newspaper reviews, miscellaneous photocopied materials, and related items. Further records of artists associated with the Pollock Gallery will be found in series 4, 6 and 7.

Toronto Painting '84 questionnaires

Series contains files compiled in preparation for a show of Toronto painters by the Adult Programs Department at the Art Gallery of Ontario. Letters from Peter Dale with questions attached were sent in May 1984 to the 24 artists involved in the show. There were three slightly different questionnaires, each with 7-8 questions. The letter and lists of questions can be found in the administrative files. The responses are arranged alphabetically.

Correspondence files

Series consists of Robert Markle’s “Letters” files of correspondence received, which were filed chronologically by Markle. Series also includes some correspondence files assembled by the archivist. File titles have been taken from Markle’s file labels, except for those in square brackets, which have been supplied by the archivist.
