Series comprises correspondence, receipts, invoices, floor plans, photographs and lists of artworks related to acquiring, exhibiting, maintaining and lending works from the J.S. McLean Collection (at the McLean residence and the offices of Canada Packers), along with art gallery notices, exhibition catalogues, booklets on art subjects and newspaper clippings. Correspondents include Lawren Harris, A.J. Casson, A.Y. Jackson, Paraskeva Clark, Carl Schaefer, Leonard Brooks, Joe Plaskett and Ada Carmichael (wife of Franklin Carmichael).

Series comprises F.H. Varley’s calendar-agenda books with notations for appointments, addresses and other memoranda. Pages in some items include graphite sketches. Item titles are chiefly from the title pages or covers of the items.

Series comprises detailed lists of works of art by F.H. Varley in the collection of Kathleen McKay with appraised values. File includes other lists of works, loan documents for a Varley exhibition in 1981 and correspondence regarding reproduction of Varley’s work.

Series consists of photographs including slides and negatives, of past, present and potential works of art in the Zacks’ collection. They were stored in labeled envelopes containing numbers that corresponded to insurance lists. Archival envelopes have replaced the originals, with photocopies of the original inserted. The original numbering systems have been maintained and the files kept in the arrangement as they were found.

Most files were specifically labeled as the property of Mrs. Zacks; the series also contains some files that fall outside the boundaries of the other series. These include a file of miscellaneous donations made by the Zacks Foundation, a file relating to the material in the Samuel J. Zacks fonds at the National Library and Archives of Canada and magazine articles about Mrs. Zacks. The files have been grouped together by subject, with one oversize box at the end

Series comprises committee reports and minutes, correspondence, monthly bulletins of the gallery, exhibition notices, lists of donors, and accessions lists.

Four distinct sets of correspondence files have been grouped in this sub-series, following the original file labels: chronological art correspondence (Box 1), alphabetical art correspondence (Box 2), chronological [general] correspondence (Box 3), and alphabetical “Misc.”correspondence (Box 4).
