Collection comprises photographic prints submitted with replies to biographical questionnaires sent by the AGO to Canadian artists between 1912 and 1984. The collection was augmented with 239 photographs purchased from Toronto photographer M.O. Hammond (1876–1934) between 1927 and 1934. Collection also includes photos and copy prints obtained in connection with Gallery exhibitions and photos acquired by other Gallery departments, with news photographs and reproductions of photos from agencies and other institutions. Photos were added to the collection up to the end of the 1990s.
The photographic prints in the collection are chiefly gelatin silver prints but also include chromogenic colour prints, diffusion transfer prints and photos produced by other processes. The collection includes images of 598 artists in studio portraits and snapshots, at exhibition openings and in their studios, and in group photos. Some photographs are annotated with biographical details on verso or in accompanying textual records.

Collection consists of audio recordings of interviews with individuals who were active in the Toronto visual art community during Robert Markle’s lifetime, art historians, and friends and family of Robert Markle. Collection also includes two notebooks containing transcriptions and notes. Interviews were created and used in the process of researching Blazing Figures: A Life of Robert Markle. Collection consists of posters designed by Will Munro for events organized by him at various venues in downtown Toronto. Posters employ a variety of media and processes, including silkscreen and photocopies. Some of these posters were featured in Will Munro: Total Eclipse, July 31-September 26, 2010, part of the Toronto Now series of exhibitions at the AGO. Silk-screening of many of the posters was carried out by Michael Comeau.

Collection consists of letters solicited by Donald Buchanan for his study James Wilson Morrice: a biography (Toronto: Ryerson Press, 1936). Correspondents include Léa Cadoret, W. Somerset Maugham, Gerald Faustus Kelly, Charles Prendergast, Elizabeth R. Pennell, Clive Bell, Walter Pach, David Morrice, Pavel Ettinger and Henri Matisse. Also included are a photograph of Morrice, a postcard from him to William Brymner, and photographs of three of his works.

Collection consists of photocopies of W.J. Wood’s correspondence with Group of Seven members and others. Collection also includes photocopies of poems by Wood, exhibition-related records, and selected summaries and transcriptions of correspondence. Material comprising this collection was gathered by curator Christine Boyanoski in the course of her research toward the exhibition William J. Wood: Graphics and Drawings (Art Gallery of Ontario, 1983). The collection is arranged in a single series, in which file titles correspond to sections in Boyanoski’s binders.

Collection consists of research materials assembled by Matthew Teitelbaum and Ron Graham in preparation for the 1996 exhibition Paterson Ewen: Earthly Weathers/Heavenly Skies. Materials include audio recordings of interviews with Paterson Ewen and others, photographs and photocopies of photographs, interview transcripts, essays, newspaper articles, exhibition related files, and other miscellaneous research material.

Collection consists of records accumulated by Ric Amis between 1982 and 1994 from organizations with which he was affiliated in Toronto, including Citizens for the Arts, Beaver Hall Artists’ Housing Co-operative, Lakeshore Village Artists’ Housing Co-operative, Toronto Artscape, Toronto Independent Media Enterprises/Cultural Arts Centre (Toronto) Incorporated, Canadian Artists Network: Black Artists in Action, and the Live/Work Space Building Code Working Group.
Collection comprises records of meetings of boards and committees; business and legal correspondence; provincial, municipal and other reports and policy documents; administrative records of organizations; research materials on artists’ co-operative housing; feasibility studies for projects; architectural drawings, and related material.

Collection consists of early-20th-century photographs of Canadian historical figures and Canadian public monuments taken by M.O. Hammond and others. Portrait photograph subjects include Canadian poets Bliss Carman and Charles G.D. Roberts and artists Walter S. Allward, E.J. Dinsmore and Charles Eduard Huot. The collection also includes a copy print of a drawing of the first director of the National Gallery of Canada and studio portraits from 1905 of Canadan prime minister Robert Laird Borden and his wife Laura Borden. The memorials photographed are chiefly by British-Canadian sculptor Alfred Howell, with a photo of a statue of a soldier by Emanuel Hahn. Some photographs in the collection are by M.O. Hammond and the studio portraits are credited to Pittaway Studio (Ottawa).
