Series comprises correspondence of Canadian painter Mary Wrinch Reid (Kirby-le-Soken, England 1877–1969 Toronto), with lists of exhibitions and paintings and biographical information, photographs of the artist, a watercolour and other material.

Members and associate members files

Series consists of artists’ CVs, artist statements, photographs and slides of the artists’ work, exhibition invitations, pamphlets and catalogues and published material about the artists from other sources, press releases and reviews who were members or associate members of the organization. Individual files contain some or all of these; the presence of slides or photographs is noted. Arrangement is alphabetical by artist name with the members followed by the associate members as indicated in the file titles.

Exhibition files

Series consists of material related to various exhibitions and includes invitations, artist lists, brochures, guest books, photographs, slides, negatives, contact sheets, press clippings, press releases, grant application materials related to specific exhibitions and one video tape. Individual files contain some or all of these; the presence of photographs, slides, negatives, contact sheets or video tapes is noted. The guest books span multiple shows and are grouped in the final file. The files are arranged roughly chronologically with files for each year containing materials from smaller exhibitions and separate files for larger exhibitions. Within the files the materials are arranged chronologically where possible with exceptions noted.

Executive committee files

Series consists of members, executive and annual general meeting minutes; the secretary’s rough notes for the meeting minutes; register of directors; files of the communication, fundraising, hospitality and maintenance committees which reported to the executive committee. These files are of the Workscene Co-operative Corporation, Workscene/Ruby-Fiorino Gallery and the Workscene Gallery as noted. The arrangement of the files in this series respects the original order of the creator. The meeting minutes were filed by year with the secretary’s notes filed separately. The materials in all files are roughly chronological

Financial records

Series comprises financial reports and income tax returns. These files are of Workscene Co-operative Corporation, Workscene Gallery and Workscene Gallery Art Association Toronto Inc. as noted.

Publications

Series consists of materials related to Workscene Gallery’s publications including copies of Work Seen magazine and a related report; copies of Artword Artists Forum magazine; grant applications and reports related to The Order of Things: An International Fax Project as well as a copy of the catalogue; ISBN applications and related correspondence.

Correspondence

Series consists of correspondence sent and received by the executive of the gallery. Copies or drafts of correspondence sent include responses to applications for membership, confirmation of gallery rental, letters of support, and correspondence to members about the transfer of the Workscene Gallery records to the E.P. Taylor Research Library & Archives, Art Gallery of Ontario. Correspondence received includes membership requests, resignations or withdrawals from the collective and applications for employment. Individual files contain some or all of these. There was no correspondence in the series for 1995.

Administration files

Series comprises material related to running the gallery and includes legal documents, leases, ANNPAC information, corporate seal and address stamp, floor plans, promotional material, art rental information, gallery log books, gallery attendant’s manual, grants related to administration, and membership information. Arrangement is alphabetical by file title with the exception of the corporate seal and address stamp which are housed separately in the final box of the series.

Project and exhibition records

Series comprises Suzy Lake’s documentation of her career as an artist, organized according to exhibition or project. Typical file contents include press clippings, copies of exhibition invitations and catalogues, and photographic documentation. Series also includes performance notes and scripts for the works “Missed Liberty”, “Dance to Life”, “The 1812 Overture – An Ongoing Saga; Or, The Corn Also Rises” and “The Shirley Show / After Oka what?”.
