Administrative files

Series is comprised of material pertaining to the operations and management of Baldwin Street Gallery, including newsletters and flyers, the sale of photographic equipment, publicity and press materials, grant applications, teaching courses and workshops, and research materials for projects undertaken by members of the Gallery examining sexism in the photography industry and promoting the work of historical and contemporary women photographers.

Exhibition files

Series consists of material, including programmes, posters, flyers, correspondence, exhibition and artist statements, and press pertaining to the creation and promotion of exhibitions at Baldwin Street Gallery in addition to exhibitions by members of Baldwin Street Gallery held at other galleries.

Correspondence

Series consists of correspondence between the Baldwin Street Gallery and photographers, curators, other galleries, as well as some personal letters received and sent by Laura Jones and John Phillips.

Inuit craft objects

Series comprises two Inuit craft items that belonged to Jean Blodgett. Their artists are no longer known.

Series comprises curriculum vitae and other employment-related documentation, as well as photographic portraits of Jean Blodgett.

Travel records

Series comprises records of Jean Blodgett’s travels with the Adventure Canada company as an expert host. Files contain correspondence, travel prospectuses and related records; a journal of Blodgett’s travel to Labrador, and two photograph albums containing images of travel to Baffin Island and Greenland.

Research photographs

Series comprises Jean Blodgett’s research photographs of Inuit objects in museum collections in Canada, the USA, Great Britain and Europe. Photographs were originally contained in three-ring binders and have been rehoused in folders for reasons of preservation and compact storage.

Research interview recordings

Series comprises audio recordings of research interviews with Inuit artists and art scholars including Osuitok Ipeelee, Kenojuak Ashevak, Jessie Oonark, George Swinton, and Terry Ryan.

Research and project files

Series comprises Jean Blodgett’s research and project files, starting with her graduate studies at the University of British Columbia, and including the records of independent exhibition and book projects from across her career as a curator. Notable concentrations of files include materials on the historical period of Inuit art; Kenojuak Ashevak; Jessie Oonark; Osuitok Ipeelee; and George Swinton.
