Fonds consists of personal and professional records of Canadian painter Jack Bush, created chiefly in Toronto during the 1930s to 1970s: his personal diaries; record books containing notes on his paintings; photographs (slides, transparencies, negatives and prints) largely of his paintings but also of his studio, exhibit installations and other subjects; with scrapbooks of newspaper and magazine clippings about the artist, exhibition notices, examples of his commercial art, and further records of his paintings.

Record books

Series comprises bound notebooks in which Jack Bush recorded notes on his paintings between 1930 and 1976. Beginning in 1957, some descriptions include thumbnail drawings. The notes include titles, dimensions, dates, some purchasers and other details of the paintings.

Letters include congratulations on Panton's election as President, correspondence with Lawren Harris regarding the formation of the Canadian Group of Painters, letters from Fred Brigden, Thoreau MacDonald, C.W. Jefferys, Franz Johnston, letters to the editors of the Canadian Forum and The Globe and Empire, correspondence with G.A. Reid, the Ontario Department of Education, Frank Carmichael, Eric Brown, Florence Wyle and others.

File contains material other than correspondence relating to the OSA: memos, reports, published Constitution and Annual Report, and material related to annual exhibitions

C - Lectures, papers, etc. [No. 3: Public lectures]

Files contains typed texts of lectures given to the St. Clements Club, talks to open OSA exhibitions in Hamilton, Barrie and elsewhere, lectures addressed to the Heliconian Club, the Hamilton Association and the University of Western Ontario.

D - Correspondence re art [No. 3: art sales]

File contains correspondence with the National Gallery, The Canadian Fine Art Guild, the Public Library, Museum and Art Gallery of South Australia, the Medici Society, correspondence relating to the award for third prize in the Victory Loan Bonds poster design competition, the Art Gallery of Toronto, the Roberts Gallery, the Doon School of Fine Arts and the Robertson Galleries (Ottawa).
