Research files

Series comprises of research material compiled by Ron Graham in preparation for the biographical essay “Twenty-Four Sketches for a Portrait of Paterson Ewen.” The essay was published in the catalogue for the Art Gallery of Ontario exhibition Paterson Ewen: Earthly Weather/Heavenly Skies, ed. by Matthew Teitelbaum and co-published by the AGO and Douglas & McIntyre in 1996. Series consists of photographs and photocopies of photographs, interview transcripts, essays, newspaper articles, exhibition related files, and other miscellaneous research material.

Research files

This series is comprised of research material on subjects Robert Fones found inspirational and/or influenced his artistic endeavours over the course of his lifetime. These include files on different artistic processes, tools and equipment as well as family history, his grade school and high school records, and his travels. It also includes files on artists and other individuals who greatly influenced his career and/or with whom he had close personal/professional ties, as well as on individual works of art, graphic design, typeface design and other subjects he explored in his work. It includes draft copies of artist talks he has given over the years are included, as well as portraits of him taken by Arnaud Maggs for the 1999 Toronto Arts Awards.

Series consists of files maintained by Curnoe on a variety of subjects, including artists, the visual arts, writers, language, films, manifestos, reproductions, airships, sports, and historical topics. Files typically contain press clippings, exhibition invitations and other ephemera.

Series comprises Jean Blodgett’s research and project files, starting with her graduate studies at the University of British Columbia, and including the records of independent exhibition and book projects from across her career as a curator. Notable concentrations of files include materials on the historical period of Inuit art; Kenojuak Ashevak; Jessie Oonark; Osuitok Ipeelee; and George Swinton.

Series comprises bound notebooks in which Jack Bush recorded notes on his paintings between 1930 and 1976. Beginning in 1957, some descriptions include thumbnail drawings. The notes include titles, dimensions, dates, some purchasers and other details of the paintings.

Series comprises records documenting Moos Publishing Limited. The company was incorporated April 5, 1984 with Irwin Schwartz as Director and Walter Moos as President and Secretary. Walter Moos is listed as the sole shareholder. Records include articles of incorporation, proofs, drafts and correspondence regarding the publishing of books and ISBN information. Moos Publishing Limited produced two major books on artists: Ken Danby : the new decade / Paul Duval (Toronto : Stoddart, 1984) and Gershon Iskowitz : painter of light / Adele Freedman (Toronto : Merritt, 1982.) .

Series consists of copies of publications featuring writing or illustrations by Robert Markle, including magazines, literary journals, poetry collections and novels. Frequently-appearing periodical titles are Toronto Life, Macleans, Canadian Magazine, and Imperial Oil Review. Some press clippings of newspaper articles by Markle are also included, as is an exhibition notice designed by Markle for The Isaacs Gallery.

Series includes a list of exhibitions in which Florence Vale’s artwork was displayed. Series includes magazines saved by Florence Vale that include mentions of her and/or Albert Franck. Magazines have handwritten notations providing location of mentions and articles. Series also includes newspaper clippings of articles and illustrative material about Florence Vale and/or Albert Franck. Series includes invitation and letters to Florence Vale about her attendance and speech (speech notes included) at the Symposium of Canadian Artists.

Series consists of press clippings, exhibition invitations and other promotional material relating to Robert Markle’s career and collected by the artist. Series includes the contents of four scrapbook binders (1960-64, 1965-66, 1967-72, 1973-) assembled by Marlene Markle and containing press clippings, exhibition invitations, small catalogues, and some correspondence. Series also includes a bound volume entitled “Research Material on Robert Markle” compiled by Jim MacCammon & Associates and containing biographical information including a CV and press clippings.
