Fonds consists of corporate records of Gallery Moos, including files on artists and associated dealers and galleries, art fair participation and travel, business correspondence, publishing and administrative records and the records of David Moos and gallery director Gerard Jennings. Fonds also contains the gallery’s published material, including exhibition invitations and catalogues, posters, and limited edition publications. Two films on gallery artist Gershon Iskowitz are also included.
The accrual of 2004 consists of Series 8 and Series 9, listed below. In 2012 the accrual of material from Gallery Moos augmented Series 1–6, 8 and 9, and added Series 10–14.

Series comprises posters for exhibitions held by Gallery Moos. Material received in 2002 (29 posters) was supplemented with an accrual of 26 posters in 2012.

Films

Series comprises 2 motion pictures on gallery artist Gershon Iskowitz: “Standing Apart,”produced by Peter and Frances Mellenco (concerning Iskowitz’s participation in the Venice Biennale, 1972); and “I Paint What I Know—Gershon Iskowitz,” produced by Peter Alford. Motion pictures will also be found in Series 9 (New York office records).

Gallery director’s records

Series comprises records of Gallery Moos director, Gerard Jennings, and includes correspondence with artists and clients, information from and about artists, valuations of works, price lists, photocopies of press clippings, invitations to exhibitions at other galleries, and images of works of art. Gallery Moos invitations were removed from these files and incorporated into Series 5 (Exhibition invitations). .

Administration records

Series comprises records related to the running of the gallery and includes artist biographies, price lists, sample forms and statements, materials used to determine insurance values and some correspondence. Within the administrative records, separate files were maintained for some artists including price lists, statements of works sold and other administrative documents. The administrative files related to individual artists and the artist biographies are grouped together at the end of the series.

Series comprises records documenting Moos Publishing Limited. The company was incorporated April 5, 1984 with Irwin Schwartz as Director and Walter Moos as President and Secretary. Walter Moos is listed as the sole shareholder. Records include articles of incorporation, proofs, drafts and correspondence regarding the publishing of books and ISBN information. Moos Publishing Limited produced two major books on artists: Ken Danby : the new decade / Paul Duval (Toronto : Stoddart, 1984) and Gershon Iskowitz : painter of light / Adele Freedman (Toronto : Merritt, 1982.) .

Series comprises material recording details of exhibitions held by Gallery Moos. Files include lists of works, press releases, newspaper clippings, artist information and other material. Material was received by the AGO in 2012.

David Moos’ records

Series comprises records from the Gallery Moos New York office that document David Moos’ academic and professional careers in the late 1980s and 1990s. Records include curricula vitae; applications to universities, fellowships and positions; correspondence; academic essays as well as essays, reviews and proposals written in a professional capacity including his collaborations with Rainer Crone and sample of the work of other fiction writers. .

Series comprises records from the Gallery Moos New York office, including correspondence with clients, artists and colleagues; card indexes; floor plans and architectural drawings; photographs of artwork and the gallery space; administrative records regarding the gallery space and samples of letterhead. Material was received from Gallery Moos in 2004 and 2012. .

Series comprises files of general correspondence received at Gallery Moos in Toronto over a period of more than thirty years from 1959 to 1993. The materials were received by the AGO from Gallery Moos in 2004 and 2012. The 2012 accrual comprises copies of letters sent from Walter Moos, gallery director Gerard Jennings and other gallery staff as well as letters received from clients, other dealers and galleries chiefly regarding purchases of artwork, requests to publish or exhibit works by gallery artists.
