Scope and content
The Artists with their Work program offered a rotating roster of Canadian artists from around the province who could be booked for exhibitions and workshops at local centres including art galleries, artist centres, colleges and universities, and public libraries.
Extension Services established the Artists with their Work program in 1971. It was co-sponsored with the Ontario Arts Council until April 1, 1974, when it became solely coordinated by the Art Gallery of Ontario.
After the Extension Services department became part of the Education, Outreach and Public Programming Division in 1992, the Extension Services Program Coordinator Marcie Lawrence continued to coordinate the Artists with their Work program until it was discontinued in 1999. From 1996-1999 the program reported to the Curator of Contemporary Art, Jessica Bradley.
Artists with their Works files may contain correspondence, planning documents, feedback from centres, lists of works, promotional materials and news clippings, and other records.
Notes: not all artists represented in this series were formal participants in the Artists with their Work program; the program’s administrative structure also sometimes supported the participation of artists outside of the program in workshops and group exhibitions.
