Biographical history
Sybille Oltea Yvonne Pantazzi (1914-1983) was the Librarian at the Art Gallery of Ontario for thirty-two years, a book-collector and a pioneering scholar in the area of Victorian book design. She was born in Romania, traveled widely as a young woman, and settled in Toronto at the end of the Second World War. Among her many interests were book jackets and the artists who created them.
Archival history
The collection was accumulated by Sybille Pantazzi during her tenure as librarian of the Art Gallery of Ontario; ownership transferred to the library after her retirement in 1980.

Scope and content
Collection contains book jackets, grouped into geographical categories. Also included is a published exhibition catalogue. Dates have been provided by Sybille Pantazzi and are written in pencil on the verso. Attribution is based on a designation on one of the jacket flaps, on a signature within the illustration, and occasionally on stylistic analysis.
