Fonds consists of personal and professional records of Canadian painter Jack Bush, created chiefly in Toronto during the 1930s to 1970s: his personal diaries; record books containing notes on his paintings; photographs (slides, transparencies, negatives and prints) largely of his paintings but also of his studio, exhibit installations and other subjects; with scrapbooks of newspaper and magazine clippings about the artist, exhibition notices, examples of his commercial art, and further records of his paintings.

Fonds consists of personal and professional records created by Gilbert and Stewart Bagnani and their families, chiefly in Europe, North Africa, and Canada, for the most part between ca. 1910 and 1955, comprising photographs of Gilbert Bagnani's travels and archaeological work in Italy, Greece, Turkey, Libya and Egypt in the 1920s and 1930s; a motion picture of his activities in and around Tebtunis in Egypt in 1934; correspondence between the Bagnanis themselves, Gilbert Bagnani's mother Florence Bagnani and other family members; photos of the families of Gilbert and Stewart Bagnani, including 19th-century photo portraits of their Dewar, Houston, and Robinson relatives; a collection of copy prints and glass slides of art and antiquities used by Dr. Bagnani in his university teaching; audio recordings of Dr. Bagnani lecturing; albums of clippings and memorabilia of family and social events; miscellaneous printed, typescript and manuscript items; photos of the Bagnanis at Trent University in the 1980s; an album of postage stamps; and other material.

Fonds consists of Art Institute of Ontario records accumulated by Paul Bennett, in the course of his duties as Field Director / Adviser and later Director of the Art Institute of Ontario. Fonds includes Adviser’s service reports, minutes of annual meetings, director’s reports, funding briefs, and two scrapbooks documenting the activities of the AIO. Fonds consists of personal and professional records of Michael Bidner, primarily created during the mid-1970s to 1989. Files pertain to various projects during Bidner’s artistic career and include working files, artwork, the artist’s publications, correspondence, ephemera, photographs and slides.

Collection consists of early-20th-century photographs of Canadian historical figures and Canadian public monuments taken by M.O. Hammond and others. Portrait photograph subjects include Canadian poets Bliss Carman and Charles G.D. Roberts and artists Walter S. Allward, E.J. Dinsmore and Charles Eduard Huot. The collection also includes a copy print of a drawing of the first director of the National Gallery of Canada and studio portraits from 1905 of Canadan prime minister Robert Laird Borden and his wife Laura Borden. The memorials photographed are chiefly by British-Canadian sculptor Alfred Howell, with a photo of a statue of a soldier by Emanuel Hahn. Some photographs in the collection are by M.O. Hammond and the studio portraits are credited to Pittaway Studio (Ottawa).

Collection consists of photocopies of W.J. Wood’s correspondence with Group of Seven members and others. Collection also includes photocopies of poems by Wood, exhibition-related records, and selected summaries and transcriptions of correspondence. Material comprising this collection was gathered by curator Christine Boyanoski in the course of her research toward the exhibition William J. Wood: Graphics and Drawings (Art Gallery of Ontario, 1983). The collection is arranged in a single series, in which file titles correspond to sections in Boyanoski’s binders.

The fonds consists first, of papers of Frances Loring: correspondence (largely genealogical), lists of her works, a collection of short stories, articles, newspaper clippings, information about Loring’s father, Frank C. Loring, and two etching plates. Second, papers and other materials of Florence Wyle: poems, diaries, journals, articles, biographical information (including birth certificates, passport), lists (including prices and exhibitions) of her works, and various etching plates. The third part of the fonds comprises a collection of photographs of works by both artists. Lastly, the 1987 accrual to the fonds contains further biographical documentation and correspondence (relating to artworks, to the Loring and Wyle Trust Fund, to personal matters including finances, and to their estate) and an additional collection of photographs. The Art Gallery of Ontario Biographical Questionnaires Collection consists of written responses to forms requesting factual information pertaining to the careers of 372 Canadian artists. The Collection consists of printed forms that have been completed and signed by Canadian artists between 1912 and 1979 and a group of 24 responses to questions posed by AGO staff in 1984. The final group is concerned more with the nature of the artist’s work rather than factual and biographical information. The earliest forms were one page in length; basic information regarding birth date, education, exhibitions, awards, publications and a signature was requested. Forms sent out in the 1970’s are two pages; the 1980’s files consist of lengthy responses in essay format to 7 or 8 questions. Two of the artists from the final group submitted audio tapes that have been transcribed. An alphabetical listing of artists can be found in the administration file. Collection consists chiefly of copies of photographs of members of the Group of Seven and Tom Thomson taken between 1914 and ca. 1952, along with some original photos taken 1926–1935 of installations of exhibitions of their work in Toronto and Ottawa in the first half of the 20th century.

Collection comprises photographic prints submitted with replies to biographical questionnaires sent by the AGO to Canadian artists between 1912 and 1984. The collection was augmented with 239 photographs purchased from Toronto photographer M.O. Hammond (1876–1934) between 1927 and 1934. Collection also includes photos and copy prints obtained in connection with Gallery exhibitions and photos acquired by other Gallery departments, with news photographs and reproductions of photos from agencies and other institutions. Photos were added to the collection up to the end of the 1990s.
The photographic prints in the collection are chiefly gelatin silver prints but also include chromogenic colour prints, diffusion transfer prints and photos produced by other processes. The collection includes images of 598 artists in studio portraits and snapshots, at exhibition openings and in their studios, and in group photos. Some photographs are annotated with biographical details on verso or in accompanying textual records.
