Matte Medium Lift

File consists of an instructional document for Astman's Photo-Based Workshop explaining the projects and other details of the workshop. Also includes an image transfer on transparent tape on the back of a plastic sleeve and a black and white photographic print of an image of a face.

Inkodye

File consists of an instructional manual for Inkodye, a brand of vat dye that can be used for a variety of dying techniques and materials, 3 b&w photographs of a child's face, an optical disc containing issue 28 (2005) of the Polaroid magazine, Polaroid International Photography, a brochure from Berg Colour-Tone Inc., and an instruction sheet regarding dry mounting adhesives.

Cyanotype Self-Portrait

File consists of an experimental cyanotype self-portrait that was created by Astman in 1980. Astman was invited by artist David Bierk to teach a summer workshop at Canadore College, North Bay, Ontario, where they created a number of cyanotypes outdoors, including this one by Astman. It was then used by Astman as a sample to show students in her Historical Processes course in the Photography Department.

[Fabric Printing]

File consists of instructional documents, invoices for printer materials, and related documents and graphic material regarding fabric printing. Includes colour fabric prints and sample fabric swatches from Jacquard Inkjet Fabric Systems. Also includes two pieces of grey synthetic fabric, patterned with dots resembling snakeskin print, relating to Jennifer Rose Scrianno’s project as an artist-in-residence at OCAD.

[Canvas Instructions]

File consists of correspondence with Christopher Bennell (OCAD) and Andrew McAllister (OCAD), instructional documents, website printouts, and related documents regarding teaching using the program Canvas. Also includes an L.A. Times article, "In a digital world, New York show wonders 'What Is a Photograph'" by Leah Ollman, two OCAD Safety & Risk Management Training certificates, a photographic slide, two transparencies of images of a man and Astman, 6 colour transparencies for adding colour tints to slides, as well as two colorless blender art markers and a writer-for-vellum marker. Also includes a cotton ball and two skeletonized leaves in a ziplock bag, which have been crumbled around the cotton ball.

[Samples and Student work - Mixed Material]

File consists of instructional documents, notes, and related records regarding the process of creating image transfer prints using a variety of materials and techniques, including oil, tape, vellum, and wood. Includes related graphic material, such as image transfers on a variety of materials, acetate overlays, and printouts. Some works were created by students, as labeled by their names. Also includes three wood reliefs featuring images of Albert Einstein and a bird, which were used as visual aids in teaching and include notes regarding steps taken to prepare a digital image for this purpose.

[Xerox Donation - Solid Ink Technology]

File consists of correspondence with Chris Wagner (Xerox Research Centre), Darren Cerkownyk (OCAD), and Esther Choi (OCAD) and related documents regarding a donation of specialty solid ink printers from the Xerox Research Centre of Canada to the OCAD Photography Department. Also includes details regarding a related Visiting Scientist agreement with Xerox and samples of colour images printed on a variety of materials, including paper, fabric and aluminized paper, created using the Xerox Solid Ink printer.

File consists of correspondence with OCAD Registrar Services and related documents regarding Astman's OCAD courses for the 2021 Spring And Summer terms.

Transparent Image Tape Transfer Tutorial

File consists of an instructional teaching document and samples of graphic material and paper ephemera such as newspaper pages, clippings, and other materials that can be used to create transparent image tape transfers. Also includes two samples of image transfers on tape used by Astman in teaching.

Historical

File consists of records relating to Historical Processes, a course taught by Astman at OCAD U on historical photographic processes. Includes a course outline and other course material, teaching notes, samples of photographic material used for teaching, predominantly b&w negatives, as well as a cyanotype and vandyke brown print.
