Fonds consists chiefly of correspondence received by Harold Murchison Tovell, Ruth Massey Tovell and Vincent Tovell, most notably from their friends the French artist Jacques Villon and his wife Gaby from 1928 to 1962. Other correspondence concerns the lending and donation of family artworks. Also included are catalogues for exhibitions of the works of Jacques Villon and his brother Raymond Duchamp-Villon as well as inventories and photographs of Tovell family artworks and furnishings. Fonds consists of the personal and professional records of Greg Curnoe. It includes such textual documentation as writing files; correspondence; project files including grant applications, records of the National Gallery retrospective exhibition, and Curnoe’s published writings; notebooks and journals kept by the artist, including his cycling journals; and a number of bookworks. Visual material includes numerous sketchbooks and works on paper as well as extensive photographic documentation of Curnoe’s studio, social and professional activities, exhibitions, family life, and art work. Also included are printing blocks and rubber stamps used in Curnoe’s art making. The fonds contains audio and audiovisual material which records important events and ideas in Curnoe’s life. The fonds includes two pop culture collections relating closely to Curnoe’s art practice: his collection of buttons and his collection of regional pop bottles. Textual materials include the artist’s correspondence (including translations from German to English provided by Michael Pflug), records of exhibitions, and a manuscript relating to her childhood. Visual materials include extensive photographic documentation of the artist and her family and a postcard collection used for inspirational purposes. Also included are items depicted in her paintings. The fonds also contains records documenting Michael Pflug’s activities and his life and relationship with Christiane Pflug. It includes his correspondence, manuscripts of an unpublished autobiography, and records related to the management of Christiane Pflug’s art.
